MATHIEU Robert

Robert MATHIEU

France (1921-2002)

Considered as one of the best French lightnings designer of the fifties, Robert MATHIEU is also paradoxically the less known since there’s not a lot of archives on his work, apart ads and catalogs of the era. As the designer and the editor of his own models under the name « R.MATHIEU Luminaires Rationnels », he developed three production lines of lightnings. From 1950 to1951, he focused on the double illumination coming from the diabolo lampshades, then, from 1953, he questioned the action of his aluminium lacquered and perforated reflectors, sometimes in chandelier, table lamps, in floor lamps, or wall lights. Finally, from 1956 to 1958, he drew a complete collection investigation a new material, the perspex.
