Denise (or Denyse) Gatard attended the Grande Chaumière academy, then trained in ceramics with her brother George Jouve. She regularly participated in the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and des Arts Ménagers. She liked the contrast of black and white, softer colors ranging from straw yellow to anise green, crackles and free and natural shapes. In the mid-1960s, Denise Gatard abandoned the design of shaped pieces and devoted herself to the production of ceramic and resin jewelry.
