Founded in 1932 by architects Gio Ponti and Luigi Fontana, the Fontana Arte publishing house specializes in artistic glasswork. Renowned for the quality of its creations, it produces numerous objects – furniture, mirrors, lighting – using this material whose lightness and transparency Ponti was able to exploit on several of his own projects. Wishing to perpetuate a tradition of excellence, the Fontana Arte firm has secured, throughout the 20th century, the services of the greatest creators: Pietro Chiesa, Gae Aulenti, Pierluigi Cerri, Piero Castiglioni, Vico Magistretti, Vittorio Gregotti, Ettore Sottsass, Umberto Riva, Alvaro Siza and especially Max Ingrand who was its director in 1954.
