HANSEN Fritz

Denmark
Fritz Hansen is a Danish furniture manufacturer founded in 1872 by an eponymous carpenter whose initial ambition was to produce his own pieces. In 1915, he designed his first bentwood chair and began a fruitful collaboration with designer Arne Jacobsen in 1934. This encounter gave rise to many icons of Danish design such as the “Ant” chair, the “Series 7” chair, the “Egg chair” and the “Swan” armchair. Other famous collaborations have resulted in pieces such as the “Super-Elliptical” table designed by Piet Hein in 1968. In 1982, Fritz Hansen acquired the rights to a large part of Poul Kjærholm’s furniture. This house marks a significant step in the history of design, it has greatly contributed to the influence of furniture with simple, elegant and functional shapes combined with natural and comfortable materials.
