Erwine Laverne studied in the United States, then in Europe, from 1928. In 1934, he met Estelle Lester, who would become his wife. Together, they began by creating wallpapers with wood and faux marble patterns and fabrics. Their Marbalia line made them fashionable designers. In the 1960s, they designed a plexiglass series called Invisible Group. Despite classic shapes, they offered a very personal vision of furniture and played the transparency card: “a piece of furniture must not obstruct the space of a room”. Among their main creations are the “Champagne” chair and the “Tulip” armchair published in 1968.
