PAULIN Pierre

1927-2009
France
After studying at the École Camondo, Pierre Paulin joined Marcel Gascoin’s studio in 1953. That same year, he exhibited his first creations at the Salon des Arts Ménagers, which met with great interest: in 1954, his creations were published by Thonet France. Paulin then joined the publisher Artifort in Maastricht in 1959, for whom he designed a range of brightly colored seats with soft, rounded shapes, covered in Jersey. In 1970, the design of the French pavilion of honor at the Universal Exhibition in Osaka brought him international fame. His consecration came in 1971, when he was entrusted with the creation of the private apartments of President Georges Pompidou at the Élysée. Building on these successes, Pierre Paulin founded the design agency ADSA Partners in 1975 with Maïa Wodzislawska and Marc Lebailly, which Roger Tallon and Michel Schreiber joined in 1984. Recognized with the Grand Prix National de la Création Industriel in 1987, his creations have been rewarded with numerous prizes. They are notably among the collections of the MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
