RISOM Jens

Jens Risom, born in 1916 in Denmark, is an iconic designer known for his leading role in the development of modern design, particularly in the mid-20th century. Trained at the Copenhagen School of Fine Arts, Risom emigrated to the United States in 1939, seeking to escape the rise of Nazism in Europe. He settled in New York, where he began working with renowned designers and quickly developed his own style.

Risom was known for his ability to marry functionality and aesthetics, creating pieces that were both practical and visually appealing. In 1941, he founded his own company with renowned furniture manufacturer Hans Knoll. Together, they launched a collection that combined Scandinavian design with American elements, emphasizing natural materials such as wood and leather. One of his most iconic designs is the Risom chair, which stands out for its clever use of canvas and sturdy construction.

Risom’s work is not limited to furniture; he has also designed interiors for a variety of spaces, including offices and residences.
