Born near Toulon, François ARNAL studied law at the University of Aix-en-Provence before joining the Resistance in 1943 in the Auvergne maquis. After the war, ARNAL moved to Paris where he met painters Pierre Dmitrienko, Serge Rezvani and Quentin, and writers Raymond Queneau, Hubert Juin, J.-C. Lambert and Alain Jouffroy. He then participated in the movements of lyrical abstraction (Charles Estienne) and informal art (Michel Tapié). In 1968, Arnal opened Atelier A in Paris, which notably published objects created by artists (Jean-Michel Sannejouand, Arman, Roy Adzak, etc.). The year 1975 marked his return to painting and sculpture and the production of his first novels and plays.
